Learn to Sing Backup Vocals
You may have tried singing along to your favourite song and played a part as the backup vocals. Personally i don't do it all the time because it takes a lot of attention especially when you are doing it inside your car while driving down the street. There are particular groups that i love to listen to, every time i want to learn to sing backup vocals.
There are songs during the 60's and 70's that have some interesting backup vocals with which anyone can sing along. Try to listen to the songs of Diana Ross and the Supremes and of the Jackson 5, you will observe that it contains interesting vocals that are almost a song themselves.
Another song with interesting backup vocals that keeps me interested is of the like like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Try singing the backup vocals in the song Who Loves You, you will see that definitely a different song behind the melody that the vocalist is singing.
The most important thing that you should know to learn to sing backup vocals is being able to hear your own voice and not be distracted by the other melody of the song. This concept must be taken with a lot of practice before you can master it, and this can be best done if you are going to stay more often with the other singers. Try to find one or two other people, and let the other play an instrument like piano or guitar and you can see that you will learn to sing backup vocals much more easier. Though this task needs a lot of practice and very challenging as well, but once you already master it, you will see that it is a very rewarding skill to have.
Most backup singers have nicer voice compared to vocalists because they know how to blend their voice with the other voice in singing a song. Sometimes these people are much nicer to listen compared to vocalists.
For you to be able to become good in singing backup vocals you must have the ability to listen well, because you need to be sensitive and concentrate with your own voice and as much as possible do not be distracted with the other melody contained in the song.
To be able to do good in backup vocals you need to have a constant practice and take extra effort and your time to practice the craft. Determination and motivation is also very important so you can go a long way. Accompanied with hard work in learning to sing backup vocals there is no doubt that you will be able to learn fast and better compared to people who doesn't work harder.
To succeed in doing back vocals it is important to have a passion for music and that you really love singing. Your passion for music will serve as your passport to success. Our famous backup vocalists of today also had their share of sacrifices when they first started their career and you too can be where they are right now.
